Bank of Akron was founded in 1900 as Wickware National Bank of Akron, when local businessman Napoleon Bonaporte Wickware directed in his will that his private banking business be converted to a national bank.
In 1919, the bank changed to a state charter as Bank of Akron. As Akron prospered and the bank grew, a new Main Office was built in 1927 at 46 Main Street in the village of Akron.

During the Great Depression, the bank was saved from financial ruin by Eugene P. Forrestel, a highway contractor and local businessman. He enabled the bank to stay open by personally backing the bank's deposits, and went on to serve as President for 43 years.

He believed that our community is best served by an independent, locally managed community bank. To this day we subscribe to that belief.

Once again, welcome to Bank of Akron where we do our best to serve your financial needs on a person-to-person basis. Look over the many products and services we offer. We feel confident you'll feel "Right at Home" with Bank of Akron as your personal bank.
