A Message About Community Banking and Lending

There’s been a lot in the news lately about banks being unwilling or unable to lend money. That’s not the case at Mahopac National Bank. Despite the reported credit crunch, we continue to make loans to qualified borrowers in this community – and business is brisk.
As a community bank, the deposits our clients hold with us are reinvested as loans here in this community. That benefits local businesses and employment – and that’s more important than ever in these challenging economic times.
As a responsible lender, we believe that the loans we make should create value for our clients, our community, and our shareholders. Like most community banks, we did not make the subprime mortgages that helped precipitate the current crisis. As the result, our bank remains strong and well capitalized. We declined to participate in the government’s TARP program, believing that our financial strength enables us to raise capital through more conventional means, should we choose to do so.
These are challenging times. That being said, with interest rates at historic lows, this may be a smart time to move ahead with prudent plans to invest in your business, buy or refinance a home, or make home improvements.
